Manchester United traveled to the Emirates Stadium to write another chapter in the United/Arsenal rivalry book.
David De Gea came up with a huge save in the ninth minute when Arsenal broke through the United backline and was able to get a shot off. De Gea was able to get his right hand to the ball and shove it out wide for a corner kick.
Arsenal came close to opening up the scoring again in the 27th minute, but Phil Jones was there to clear the danger out for yet another corner kick to the Gunners.
The score remained nil-nil heading into the half. Both teams created chances periodically, but the first half seemed to be a ‘meh’ feeling.
Granit Xhaka opened the scoring for the Gunners in the 54th minute when his shot deflected off of the back of Ander Herrera and into the net over the hands of De Gea.
Just a few minutes later, former United striker Danny Welbeck doubled the lead for Arsenal with his header in the 58th minute. Arsenal was now in control of the match. Two goals in four minutes the home team.
Manchester United would have many opportunities themselves, but they couldn’t convert any. The best chance in the second half came from Wayne Rooney when he attempted to curl the ball into the upper left corner of the goal, but the shot was high over the crossbar.
Arsenal would go on to win the match 2-0. United still sit in fifth place in the league table with 65 points, while Arsenal remains in sixth with 63 points.
